Seems the pitcher from Detroit almost pitched the perfect game last week. Except that in the 9th inning, with 2 outs, the batter hit the ball and was called safe at first. But the instant replay showed he was out. Only in baseball, the decisions on the field are called and that’s it. No going back. The next player was the third out.
Looks like the players still show some class in baseball, though, as the next day the pitcher walked up to the umpire who made that call and gave him the card with the batting order, something the coach usually does. They got a standing ovation, and tears streamed down the umpires eyes, as everyone knew he made the wrong call, and this cost the pitcher and the team “the perfect game.” Ya gotta love this sport, man.
It seems in baseball the players have a batting average that is hits divided by at bats, and that basically you can screw up twice in a row, but you can keep swinging and if you can connect with that ball on the third time you can be a star and make millions of dollars. I mean, how cool is that?
